By Zoila Palma: Belizean consumers are continuing to feel the impact of rising food prices, with new data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) showing increases across several meat products.
The figures, comparing April 2025 to April 2026 prices, reflect steady increases in commonly purchased protein items, adding to concerns over the growing cost of living.
Among the products recording the highest increases was stew pork, which rose by 13.9 percent. The price of one pound increased from $7.22 in April 2025 to $8.22 in April 2026.
Beef steak also saw a notable increase of 9.3 percent, moving from $9.94 to $10.86 per pound, while whole fish climbed by 9.4 percent, increasing from $9.25 to $10.12 per pound.
Other meat products also experienced price hikes, though at more moderate levels.
Ground beef increased by 6.7 percent, rising from $7.60 to $8.10 per pound.
Turkey recorded an 8.7 percent increase, moving from $5.82 to $6.32, while chicken wings rose by 4.4 percent from $6.81 to $7.11 per pound. Chicken legs increased by 5.8 percent, from $3.56 to $3.76.
Chicken products generally saw smaller price increases compared to beef and pork.
Whole chicken rose by 2.8 percent from $3.23 to $3.32 per pound, while chicken breast increased by the same percentage, from $4.80 to $4.93.
Chicken cuts recorded the smallest increase among the listed products at 0.9 percent, moving from $3.72 to $3.75 per pound.
