Shyne backs Darrell Bradley for UDP leader and says Panton cannot unify party

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Former United Democratic Party leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow has thrown his support behind former Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley as a potential future leader of the UDP, while launching a sharp attack on the leadership of Tracy Taegar Panton.

In a strongly worded Facebook post on Thursday, Barrow declared: “READ THE ROOM! DARRELL BRADLEY FOR UDP LEADER!”

Barrow claimed Panton has failed to unify the UDP and pointed to resignations and internal dissatisfaction as evidence of continuing problems within the party. Those assertions represent Barrow’s assessment of the current state of the UDP.

The former party leader said he is prepared to support Bradley to become UDP leader and eventually seek the office of Prime Minister.

The intervention comes as Bradley himself has publicly signalled that he is open to leading the UDP if the position becomes vacant. In a recent interview, Bradley said he considers himself an option for the party, while stressing that he is not currently campaigning against Panton and remains in communication with both Panton and Barrow.

Barrow also called for changes to the UDP Constitution that would allow Bradley to seek the leadership.

Bradley previously served two terms as Belize City Mayor and later as President of the Senate.

Barrow’s latest intervention adds another public voice to the ongoing debate over the UDP’s direction and leadership.
