By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Speaking on Wednesday, May 28, during the 2025 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives at Independence Hill in Belmopan, Jose Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, outlined the ongoing recovery of Belize’s shrimp industry. He noted that production exceeded 1.6 million pounds in 2024 as farms scaled up operations to ensure future growth.

Investors, Mai explained, have introduced new disease-resistant broodstock to enhance production, while BAHA continues to monitor shrimp health. He added that with expanded access to Caribbean, Mexican, and European markets, the shrimp industry is poised for further revitalization, including potential exports to Taiwan.
