By Aaron Humes: A man is in critical condition following a shooting incident early Saturday morning near the Maypen Bridge, entering the village in the Belize district. Police received a report at approximately 6:32 AM indicating a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police officers from Ladyville quickly responded to the scene, where they found the victim, later identified as Lorenzo Smith. Emergency responders transported him to meet a BERT Ambulance at Mile 7, where medical personnel took over his care.
Police say the motive for the shooting and what led up to it remains undetermined as Smith fights for his life: “Information is that someone was passing in the area by a bridge when they saw Lorenzo Smith with the injuries. Smith was taken for treatment where he is listed in a critical condition at the KHMH. We’re following up several leads but no one has been detained in regards to this shooting.”
