By Aaron Humes: A shooting incident in the West and George Street area of Belize City on Sunday evening has left a 37-year-old man in critical condition. The victim, identified as Karch Matt Burns, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for urgent medical attention.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 6:40 PM. Witnesses reported hearing loud bangs, which were later confirmed to be gunshots. Burns, who was driving a silver SUV, managed to drive himself to the KHMH, where he was admitted with apparent gunshot injuries.
Burns had been driving on West Street between Cemetery Road and Water Lane when he was fired upon.
Police have indicated that the shooting is being treated as a targeted attack, noting that Burns had been involved in an altercation a few days ago near the Pound Yard Bridge.
Investigations continue at this time.
