Posted: Sunday, October 20, 2024. 9:16 am CST.

By Horace Palacio: On Saturday night around 8:40 p.m., police were alerted to a shooting incident in Ladyville. Officers from the Ladyville Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) responded to the call, heading to Egbert Quilter Street. At the scene, they discovered a black 24-inch male-frame beach cruiser bicycle abandoned on the road. No bullet shells were recovered.

Authorities later visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where the victim, 39-year-old Lenny Benguche, a Belizean construction worker, was being treated for two gunshot wounds. He was reported to be in stable condition. Benguche informed police that he was riding his bicycle along Egbert Quilter Street when two men wearing dark clothing emerged from nearby bushes and opened fire, hitting him twice. The shooters fled the scene on foot.

A Scenes of Crime Technician photographed the scene, and a medico-legal form was issued to Benguche.

Investigators attempted to retrieve surveillance footage from a nearby restaurant, but the cameras were not pointed in the direction of the shooting. The suspects remain at large as the investigation continues.
