By Aaron Humes: An armed assault in a busy area of Belize City left two men dead and a woman injured early Thursday morning. As police continue to investigate the violent incident believed to be linked to ongoing gang tensions, they have made an arrest.

Today, Friday, police arrested and charged 21-year-old Luewin Link of Lords’ Bank, Belize District, with the murder of Clinton Pou, 29, and attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm of Kiandra Pou, 27.

The shooting occurred around 11:15 AM at a food truck located on East Collet Canal, where Clinton Pou was reportedly targeted while opening his mother’s establishment. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos, with over two dozen bullets fired from an automatic weapon by a gunman on a motorcycle. Clinton’s sister Kiandra was also injured during the attack.

Responding police pursued the other suspect, identified as 40-year-old Ryan Barnett, who was subsequently shot during the engagement with law enforcement in the Conch Shell Bay area. Both Clinton Pou and Ryan Barnett succumbed to their injuries within hours of the incident, while Kiandra was treated and released from hospital.

ASP Stacy Smith, Police Staff Officer, detailed the ongoing investigation. “Initial investigation suggests that siblings, Kiandra Pou, 27 years of age, and Clinton Pou, 29 years of age, were at a stall on East Collet Canal at approximately 11:15AM when they were fired upon. Officers on patrol in the immediate area responded to this incident and the indication is that a third person namely 40 year old Ryan Barnett who the indication is that he is a suspect in that shooting incident, may have been shot in the course of police’s response,” she stated.

Concerning potential links to a previous homicide involving Edward Saldano last week, ASP Smith replied, “We are not able to conclusively say so, however that is an area that is being explored.”

As the investigation continues, police have yet to recover the weapon used in the shooting. Coast Guard personnel were seen searching the Haulover Creek, diving for evidence.
