Shein, Temu prices jump as new tariffs take effect

By Zoila Palma:  Fast-fashion giants Shein and Temu have raised prices on many items as new U.S. tariffs target cheap imports from China.

The change follows an executive order signed by former President Donald Trump, ending the “de minimis” exemption that allowed items under $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free.

Now, sellers face a 120% tariff or a flat fee—$100 per package that commenced May 2, and to $200 on June 1, CNN reports.

As a result, American shoppers are already seeing higher prices.

On Shein’s app, a swimsuit set that previously costs $4.39 jumped to $8.39.

Temu listed two patio chairs at $61.72, then at $70.17 within 24 hours.

Both companies blamed higher operating costs due to the new trade rules and warned about the price increase.

Nearly half of de minimis packages go to the poorest U.S. zip codes, according to a recent study, making affordable fashion less accessible for millions.
