By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The heartbreak in Orange Walk has deepened. Authorities have confirmed that Shadia Magaña, the 17-year-old who bravely fought for her life after surviving a devastating arson fire earlier this week, has died from her injuries.
The fire, which tore through the Magaña family home early Monday morning, had already claimed the lives of Shadia’s mother, 29-year-old Angelita Magaña, and her 6-year-old brother, Tishan Godoy. Investigators later confirmed that the blaze was deliberately set by Francisco Godoy, Angelita’s former partner, who also died days later from severe burns sustained during the attack.
Shadia was rescued from the burning home and rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital before being transferred for specialized treatment. Despite the tireless efforts of doctors, she succumbed to her injuries early Wednesday morning.
Friends and relatives have described Shadia as a fighter: full of life, resilience, and courage. Her passing marks the final, tragic chapter in one of Belize’s most shocking cases of domestic violence.
“This is beyond heartbreaking. Three innocent lives taken because of one man’s obsession,” said a family member in tears.
The community of Orange Walk remains in mourning as police continue their investigation and as activists call for urgent action to strengthen Belize’s domestic violence laws and victim protection systems.
