By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Severe Flood warning remains in effect for the Belize River and its tributaries and flood warning is in effect for the Mopan River at Benque Viejo del Carmen. These warnings were included in Wednesday’s Flood Forecast by the Hydrology Unit in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum, and Mining.
Alerts and Warnings according to the Hydrology Unit’s Flood Forecast:
REGION 7
- On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek North, Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman, and Douglas to the coast, above normal levels are anticipated to persist.
- On the NEW RIVER at Hill Bank, Tower Hill, and at Caledonia to the coast, above normal levels are expected to continue.
REGION 9
- The Hydrology Unit has advised residents to monitor waterways and exercise extreme caution.
- On the MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town, bankfull stage levels are expected to persist.
- On the MACAL RIVER, at FORTIS Facilities, at the Chalillo Facility, the spillway is active; reservoir levels at Mollejon and Vaca are expected to remain below the spillway; and at San Ignacio, levels are expected to stay below the Low-Lying Bridge.
- On the BELIZE RIVER at More Tomorrow, above normal levels are forecasted; at Double Run, flood stage levels are expected to persist. On the Crooked Tree Lagoon, flood stage levels are expected to continue decreasing.
REGION 11
- On the SIBUN RIVER at Freetown Sibun, above normal levels are expected to continue.
- On the SOUTHERN LAGOON at Gales Point Village, above normal levels are anticipated to continue.
- In watersheds on the EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MAYA MOUNTAINS and on the SITTEE RIVER at Kendal Bridge, above normal levels are forecasted.
- On the branches of the MONKEY RIVER, at Swasey and Bladen, near normal levels are anticipated.
- On the DEEP RIVER at Medina Bank, normal levels are expected.
- On the RIO GRANDE at San Pedro Columbia and at Big Falls South, above normal levels are anticipated.
- On the MOHO RIVER at Blue Creek South and at Jordan, above normal levels are expected.
- On the TEMASH RIVER at Crique Sarco, above normal levels are anticipated.
REGION 13
- On the SARSTOON RIVER, above normal levels are anticipated.
