By Zoila Palma: Following social media comments and photos of Joseph “Ryan” Budna’s detention in Guatemala, many Belizeans have taken to social media to share their views on how he ended up in Guatemala.
Senator Louis Wade Jr. says that this incident is deviating from the real criminal stories on Budna.
“We created a homegrown criminal then exported him to Guatemala. We then welcomed him back with open arms as a hero… we are now up in Arms that his deeds have caught up with him and he has been exported back to Guatemala to face his crimes,” Wade said.

The act of watching ALL of Joseph “Ryan” Budna’s Live Social Media Streams but IGNORING ALL the Real Criminal Stories about him in the Belize and Guatemalan Press,” he added.
Senator Wade also compared how Budna has faced charges in Guatemala for his crime and how some Belizeans are now viewing him.
“In Guatemala:
Rapist, Armed and dangerous kidnapper and fugitive
In Belize:
Beloved Internet sensation, Influencer and Humble Servant, victim
Nuff said,” Wade stated.
Many other Belizeans share Senator Wade’s sentiments with some commenting, “A rapist, killer, kidnapper, extortionist, thief says police kidnapped him and without evidence, you all just believe the convict.”
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton has called on the Government of Belize for a response.
“We therefore call on the Prime Minister, the Minister of National Security, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to urgently confirm whether Guatemalan authorities crossed our border and apprehended a Belizean citizen? Additionally, what steps are being taken to guarantee the rights and safety of Mr. Budna under Belizean and international law,” Panton said.
