By Aaron Humes: A late-night shooting on Thursday on Cleghorn Street left a security guard injured and led police to apprehend two minors suspected of involvement in the attack. The incident occurred around 9:45 PM when the security guard was on duty at JL’s Quick Loan, located on Douglas Jones Street.

He was stationed at the back of the compound when he was approached by two armed assailants who opened fire. Despite sustaining gunshot wounds, he managed to escape the compound and was later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for medical attention. He is currently reported to be in stable condition.

A swift response from the police led to the detention of two male minors in a nearby area shortly after the shooting. Officers reported seeing a suspect fleeing from Conch Shell Bay, and a constable pursued him on foot, successfully apprehending the 17-year-old, who was wearing a ski mask. During the chase, the suspect reportedly aimed his firearm at another officer, but the weapon failed to discharge.

In addition to the 17-year-old, a second minor, aged 16, was detained at the corner of Magazine Road where he was found in possession of a black CZ 9mm pistol. The police later discovered a Ruger pistol in the vicinity, believed to be related to the incident.

A security supervisor at JL’s Quick Loan confirmed the theft of two firearms from the security booth, which were reported missing following the shooting. Investigators observed no signs of forced entry into the booth, suggesting that the weapons may have been taken during the attack.

Both minors remain in police custody.
