Second suspect charged in attempted murder of Wayne Welch

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A second suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the attempted murder of 24-year-old construction worker Wayne Welch, who was shot and injured on Central American Boulevard in July of this year.

On Wednesday, 21-year-old Elisha Buller, a construction worker, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6, where he was arraigned on three indictable offenses: attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and wounding.

Buller—who is the twin brother of Elijah Buller—was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January 29, 2026, when he and the first accused, Mark Jackson, are scheduled to appear together for the first time on these charges.

Jackson, a labourer of Melville Road, Fabers Road Extension, was the first to be charged, having been arraigned on July 29, 2025, two days after the shooting.

Police say that around 5:30 a.m. on July 27, 2025, they received a report of a shooting on Central American Boulevard. Officers visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where Welch—described as a slim, dark-complexioned male—was receiving treatment for apparent gunshot wounds.

Welch told investigators that earlier that morning, he saw a woman he recognized as the girlfriend of a man known as “Blue” being dropped off on a black motorcycle near his home. As “Blue” drove off, Welch said he overheard him telling the woman, “Stay out here.”

Minutes later, while Welch was standing in front of Tammy’s Wholesale Store, the same motorcycle allegedly returned—this time stopping directly in front of him. Welch reported that a second man got off the motorcycle and shot him. A struggle followed before both men escaped in the direction of Fabers Road.

At the scene, police recovered what they believe to be the firearm used in the attack: a .38 revolver marked “Jaguar,”which was packaged and sent to the National Forensic Science Service for analysis.

With Buller now formally charged, both suspects will return to court on January 29, 2026, where the case proceeds toward preliminary inquiry and, ultimately, trial at the High Court.

The investigation remains ongoing.
