By Zoila Palma: The National Agriculture and Trade Show (NATS) 2026 officially got underway with the second annual cabalgata, a horseback parade that set the tone for the Belize’s premier agricultural event.
The ride, held in Belmopan on May 1, 2026, brought together participants and spectators in a display of tradition, pride and community spirit, underscoring the theme that the heart of AGRIC lies in its people.
Riders from across Belize took part in the horse parade, showcasing horsemanship and rural heritage in what has quickly become one of the most anticipated highlights of the annual show.
Among those participating was Former Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai who introduced this event in 2025.
Although unable to ride due to recent surgery, Mai joined the parade on the ground, while members of his team and fellow riders carried on the tradition in the saddle.
The Ministry of Agriculture said the cabalgata serves as a tribute to Belize’s agricultural roots and the enduring relationship between communities and livestock.
