By Breaking Belize News Staff: Well-known criminal figure Raymond Codd is back behind bars after being arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for possession of a utensil used for smoking a controlled drug.
Codd, a 54-year-old art and craft/maintenance worker of Taylor’s Alley, Belize City, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was read a single charge. He pleaded guilty with an explanation, asking the court for leniency and requesting a fine instead of imprisonment.
The court imposed a $300 fine plus $5 cost of court, in default three months’ imprisonment, despite Codd’s two prior drug convictions. However, his freedom was short-lived after court records revealed he owed $2,500 in outstanding finesfrom previous matters. Unable to pay, a warrant was prepared for his committal to the Belize Central Prison to serve the fines in default prison time.
Police say that on Friday, January 16, 2026, around 4:35 p.m., officers were conducting mobile patrol on Tigris Street, Belize City, when police observed a slim, brown-skinned Creole male exiting a yard known for drug activity. As officers informed him he would be searched for illegal firearms and ammunition, the man allegedly threw a metal object across the street.
The object was retrieved and identified as a silver metal crack pipe, measuring approximately two inches in length. Codd was escorted to Precinct 1 Police Station and later charged with possession of a utensil used for smoking a controlled drug.
Codd now remains in prison after his unpaid fines ultimately led to his committal.
