By Breaking Belize News Staff: Forty-five-year-old Moses Conorquie is behind bars after being sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for possession of drug utensils.
Conorquie, who was unrepresented, appeared before a Magistrate earlier this week where he was read two charges: possession of utensils for a crack pipe measuring 11 centimeters in length, and possession of an article with a blade—a knife measuring 23 centimeters.
He pleaded guilty to both offenses. However, the charge for possession of an article with a blade was dismissed after the Magistrate ruled it defective. The court noted that the charge failed to properly outline the required elements, including the time and circumstances under which the offense was allegedly committed in a public place. The prosecutor agreed, resulting in the dismissal of that count.
Conorquie was not as fortunate on the drug utensil charge. Given his lengthy criminal record, which includes more than six previous convictions for possession of a crack pipe dating back to 2024, the Magistrate imposed a custodial sentence of three months. The court further ordered that Conorquie participate in a drug rehabilitation program while incarcerated, explaining that another fine would not have been appropriate due to his repeat offending.
Police say Conorquie was busted over the weekend and found with a silver metal pipe with a black handle measuring 11 centimeters, which was discovered tucked into the left side of his pants waist.
