By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 60-year-old Belize City man has been fined after pleading guilty to possessing drug-smoking utensils, marking his second conviction for a similar offence in just over one month.
Brian Castillo, a labourer of Cleghorn Street, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to possession of utensils used for smoking a controlled drug.
Castillo was fined $150, along with $5 in court costs. He was given until August 31, 2026, to pay, or he will serve two months in prison.
Police alleged that officers were conducting motorcycle patrols on Slaughterhouse Road at around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, when they approached Castillo and informed him that he would be searched for drugs and firearms.
An officer alleged that Castillo reached into his pants pocket, removed a transparent glass pipe and smashed it on the ground before he was restrained and arrested.
Castillo was previously convicted of the same offence on June 17, 2026, after being found with a glass crack pipe. In that case, he was fined $350 plus $5 in court costs and given until September 30 to pay, or face three months’ imprisonment. Our records show that Castillo was also charged for a similar offense in April of this year and another in September 2025.
