By Breaking Belize News Staff: The search for 14-year-old Axel Oroman has ended in heartbreak. Officials confirmed moments ago that his body was recovered from the Belize River near the Haulover Bridge, a day after he disappeared beneath the water during a jet ski accident.
The incident occurred around 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, when Axel and 55-year-old Roy Kittler were riding a jet ski that lost control. Both fell into the river, but while Kittler managed to make it to safety, Axel vanished beneath the surface.
Lifeguards from the nearby Maya Princess Casino responded quickly but could not locate the teen. The Belize Coast Guard launched a full search, which was called off at nightfall and resumed early this morning.
Sadly, Axel’s body was found just now during Sunday’s resumed search efforts.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine what led to the accident.
