[Many thanks to Linda Rodríguez Guglielmoni for bringing this item to our attention.] The Master’s Program in Cultural and Humanistic Studies [Estudios Culturales y Humanísticos] at Universidad de Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (UPRM) is hosting two events on Thursday, October 10, 2024: the lecture “Cine imperfecto, indisciplinado, intuitivo” [Imperfect, undisciplined, intuitive cinema] by filmmaker Gisela Rosario Ramos (AKA Macha Colón), and a screening of her award-winning film Perfume de gardenias (2021).
The lecture takes place at 10:30am in Chardón 228, UPRM. The film will be screened in the same building, in the Ramón Figueroa Chapel Amphitheater, at 5:00pm. The screening will be followed by a conversation with the director. Both events are free and open to the public.
Description: Perfume de gardenias (Dir. Macha Colón, 2021), selected as the best national feature film at the Puerto Rico Film Festival in 2021, has received more than a dozen awards at national and international festivals.
Perfume is a Puerto Rican comedy about death, grief and the loving creativity that develops, in community, after the loss of a loved one because, as its protagonist says, if we want to be happy, “how can we not want to have a happy death?”
