School gardens and Sembrando Vida to boost Rural Development

By Zoila Palma: Government initiatives aimed at youth engagement and rural development are set to expand, with renewed focus on agriculture education and farmer support, Minister of Agriculture Rodwell Ferguson said today during his budget presentation.

“The Sembrando Vida Phase 2 project is in the pipeline to commence in 2026,” Ferguson announced.

He emphasized the project’s impact on rural livelihoods.

“The main objective of the Sembrando Vida Project is to improve the quality of life for the rural population through the generation of employment,” he said.

Ferguson also highlighted the importance of engaging youth in agriculture.

“School gardening fosters hands-on learning, it promotes students’ engagement as they get excited watching plants and animals grow,” he stated, adding that “a total of 60 schools all over the country have school gardens.”
