By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belize City resident Jimmy Estuardo Rojas has been sentenced to three years in prison after changing his plea to guilty for burglarizing a Mahogany Street boutique where police reportedly caught him inside with bags packed with merchandise.
Rojas appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, September 15, where he changed his original not-guilty plea and admitted to burglarizing Jay’z Pick & Wear Boutique at the corner of Mahogany and Jasmine streets.
The Magistrate sentenced Rojas to three years imprisonment, effective Tuesday.
The burglary occurred in the early morning hours of September 22, 2025. Police responding to a report of a burglary in progress arrived at the business and, with the owner present, entered the building believing the intruder was still inside.
According to the facts of the case, officers found Rojas inside the boutique along with several bags containing items taken from the business.
Investigators later determined that entry had allegedly been gained by damaging wooden boards at the rear of the building.
Rojas initially pleaded not guilty after being charged, but reversed that plea nearly a year later. The conviction is his first for burglary, although he has had previous encounters with the criminal justice system.
He still has another burglary charge pending in connection with the March 2026 break-in at the security booth of Saint Luke Methodist Primary School. Police alleged surveillance footage captured Rojas during that incident. He pleaded not guilty and was denied bail.
Rojas is also before the court on damage-to-property charges after police alleged that surveillance cameras and related equipment valued at almost $49,000 were damaged at two locations in the Saint Martin de Porres area in August. He has pleaded not guilty to those allegations.
Those matters remain pending before the court and are separate from Tuesday’s burglary conviction.
