By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-one-year-old Santos Absolom Chirinos, accused in the deadly New Year’s Eve shooting at Timmy’s Bar in Independence Village, made his second court appearance—this time in Belize City—where his case was adjourned due to the absence of a prepared case file.
Chirinos, a construction worker of Bella Vista Village, appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Prosecutors informed the court that the matter is not yet ready to proceed, resulting in an adjournment. He is scheduled to return to the Independence Magistrate’s Court on May 27, 2026.
Chirinos has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Keith Logan, 39, who was killed when gunfire erupted at Timmy’s Bar on December 31, 2025. Several other patrons were also injured during the incident.
Police say Chirinos was initially wanted following the shooting and later turned himself in, accompanied by his attorney. However, during the process of being detained, he allegedly pushed his attorney aside and fled from the Independence Police Station, escaping lawful custody.
He was subsequently recaptured in early January 2026 and formally charged on January 9 with murder and escape from lawful custody. Authorities have indicated that additional charges may be brought as investigations into the multiple shooting victims continue.
Chirinos remains on remand as the case proceeds.
