By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A community in the Orange Walk District is mourning the loss of one of its oldest residents following the sudden death of 97-year-old George Gill on Sunday morning.
Police were called to the residence of Mr. Gill’s daughter, Janneth Buddan, at approximately 8:20 a.m. on April 5, 2026. Upon arrival, officers were led into a wooden home where they discovered the lifeless body of Mr. Gill lying on a bed.
According to family statements, Mr. Gill had begun feeling unwell on April 1, suffering from abdominal pain, vomiting, and a loss of appetite. He was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital (NRH) on Saturday, April 4, where he received treatment before being discharged. His daughter reported that she found him unresponsive around 5:00 a.m. the following morning.
Initial police observations revealed no visible signs of injury or violence, and authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected at this time. Mr. Gill was formally pronounced dead at the Northern Regional Hospital at 10:34 a.m. His body now awaits a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
