By Aaron Humes: A road accident occurred in Santa Familia Village, claiming the life of 49-year-old Elizabeth Rivera Carrillas, a single mother of five. Rivera was walking home with her 9-year-old daughter, Janet, when a GMC flatbed truck veered off the road and struck them. Elizabeth did not survive the impact, while her daughter was hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).
According to the village’s Vice Chairman Silas Sabal, the driver of the GMC, Godson Everwashie, was on the wrong side of the road and swerved to avoid a head-on collision with a Toyota, but ended up hitting Elizabeth and her daughter instead. The incident has left the community in shock, and the family is devastated.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, revealed that the driver of the GMC has been arrested and charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, and driving without due care and attention.
Vice Chairman Sabal is urging authorities to install speed bumps or other safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The village council is working to ensure that the children receive the support they need during this difficult time.
