By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 54 year old Santa Cruz Village man has been charged with three traffic offences after police reportedly found that the motorcycle he was riding was unlicensed, uninsured and that he did not hold the required licence class to operate it.
According to police information, officers were conducting mobile patrol in Santa Cruz Village at around 5:55 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, when they noticed a red Lifan motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.
Police say a female passenger on the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet.
The motorcycle was stopped and officers requested the vehicle documents.
Police say the insurance disc had expired in January 2025, while the motorcycle licence had expired in December 2024.
Officers also reportedly determined that the rider’s Belize driver’s licence did not include the class required to operate a motorcycle.
The rider was identified as Edward Walter King, 54, a driver of Santa Cruz Village.
He was taken to the Santa Cruz Police Station and the motorcycle was impounded.
King was later formally arrested and charged with using an unlicensed motor vehicle, using a motor vehicle not covered by third party risk insurance, and driving without a valid Belize driver’s licence in respect to class.
Police say he was granted bail in the sum of $500 and was ordered to appear before the Independence Magistrate Court on September 22.
