By Breaking Belize News Staff: What began as a routine arraignment at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court last Friday took an unexpected turn when a Sandhill woman’s unruly behavior led to her bail being revoked.
Francine Milligan, 29, of Sandhill Village, had been charged with damage to property following allegations that she broke a $60 palm tree belonging to her relative. Milligan, however, denied being related to the complainant and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Initially, Chief Magistrate Deborah Rogers granted her bail of $800 plus one surety. But when Milligan began making disrespectful remarks and strange outbursts—including claiming she did not need to work because she was “rich”—the Chief Magistrate questioned her mental state.
Matters escalated when Milligan dismissed parts of the evidence as “old people problem” and refused to heed warnings to remain quiet. In response, Chief Magistrate Rogers revoked her bail and ordered that she undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Milligan was subsequently remanded to the Belize Central Prison until November 13, 2025, pending the outcome of the evaluation.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on September 1, 2025, when Milligan allegedly confronted her relatives at their Sandhill residence, made insulting remarks, and broke the palm tree before leaving the property. Police detained her nearly two weeks later, on her 29th birthday, September 13.
The case will proceed once the court receives a psychiatric assessment report.
