By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Sandhill Village resident, 30-year-old Mathew Alexander Fuentes, has been denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison following allegations of sexual assault. Fuentes, a shipwright from Sandhill Village on the Phillip Goldson Highway, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court last Friday.
Appearing unrepresented before a Magistrate in Court #1, Fuentes was read a single charge of sexual assault. The charge stems from an incident alleged to have occurred on Friday, May 23, 2025, where he is accused of intentionally and sexually touching the private parts of a 28-year-old woman without her consent.
Fuentes pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, due to the nature of the offense, bail was denied, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until September 30, 2025.
According to the police report, the 28-year-old woman stated she was sleeping in her house with a night light on when she awoke around 10:00 p.m. to find a man inappropriately touching her private parts. She identified the man as Mathew Alexander Fuentes, whom she knew well. The victim reported that Fuentes was standing next to her bed dressed in a white T-shirt and checkered boxers and was allegedly masturbating. Upon being seen, Fuentes reportedly fled the house. The woman subsequently locked her door and later filed a police report requesting court action. She had arrived home around 7:03 p.m. and gone to sleep prior to the alleged incident.
