By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Sandhill Village labourer has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned for the murder of 15-year-old Rackeem Armstrong and the attempted murder of 18-year-old Justin Young, following Sunday night’s deadly shooting in Gardenia Village.
Dean Emerson Vaccaro, 34, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning. He was escorted to court by Ladyville police and arraigned at around 9:48 a.m.
Vaccaro was read four indictable charges: murder, attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm. Due to the nature of the offences, no plea was taken and bail was denied. He was remanded until August 26, 2026.
The charges stem from a shooting incident on Sunday night in Gardenia Village, where police say Armstrong and Young were among a group of males standing on an unnamed street when an armed man approached and opened fire. Armstrong was fatally shot, while Young sustained gunshot injuries and remains hospitalized.
Police have said their preliminary investigation suggests the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute over a motorcycle. During Monday’s police press briefing, ASP Stacy Smith said investigators had not yet confirmed who the intended target was. At that time, police were seeking two suspects.
With Vaccaro now charged, police are reportedly still seeking one more suspect in connection with the shooting.
