By Zoila Palma: On April 6, 2025, the communities of San Vicente and Pueblo Viejo successfully concluded negotiations to finalize their respective community borders.
The Maya Leaders of Southern Belize noted that the discussion was led by the Boundary Harmonization Council.
Both communities engaged in an open and constructive dialogue to resolve their boundary disputes.
The negotiations adhered to the structured “auto delimitation” process—a comprehensive eight-step methodology that empowers communities to actively participate in boundary discussions and collaboratively reach agreements.
Through this community-led approach, San Vicente and Pueblo Viejo were able to negotiate a peaceful resolution in harmonizing their community boundaries.
“We continue to move forward in the meaningful implementation of the CCJ Consent Order of 2015,” the Maya Leaders said.
