By Aaron Humes: A house fire swept through a property on Sun Flower Street in San Pedro Town on Friday night, claiming the life of a man. The blaze, which was reported around 8:00 p.m., destroyed a wooden and zinc structure measuring about 10 by 20 feet, located at the back of the yard.
The San Pedro Police Department is investigating the cause of the fire. The body of the deceased was found lying face up on the floor inside the building and will be transported to the morgue in Belize City for a post-mortem examination.
Although reports suggest the victim might be a resident of Ranchito Village, Corozal District, the identity of the body remains unconfirmed and is currently listed as John Doe. The property owner is currently out of the country.
Residents witnessed the fire and rushed to remove several golf carts from the yard as the blaze engulfed the structure. The extent of the damages is still being assessed.
