By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Football fever is building in the twin towns as Mayor Earl Trapp officially announced the launch of the San Ignacio and Santa Elena 5 A-Side Christmas Cup, set to begin next Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Falcon Field Synthetic Turf in San Ignacio.
The tournament will feature three male categories:
- Category 1: Up to 34 years
- Category 2: 35 to 44 years
- Category 3: 45 and up
“It’s here everyone! The San Ignacio and Santa Elena Xmas Cup in three categories. This Friday is the last day to register as we’re planning to start next Tuesday. Register now!” Mayor Trapp urged teams to act quickly:
The tournament is strictly recreational—no semi-pro players will be allowed—and only the first eight teams per category will be accepted, Trapp said.
The registration deadline is Friday, October 3, and interested teams are encouraged to contact the San Ignacio & Santa Elena Town Council at 615-5146, 625-6920, or 804-2035 for more information.
With the festive season approaching, the Xmas Cup promises to bring community spirit, competitive energy, and a celebration of local talent to the heart of the Cayo District.
