By Breaking Belize News Staff: Retired educator Gerardo Aldana of San Ignacio is calling out Social Security for disqualifying his application to be declared medically unfit to work following his medical diagnosis.
Aldana says that in 2019, he was diagnosed with lumbar disc herniations, and since then his life has changed completely.
“I live with constant and severe pain every day. Simple things many people take for granted have become very difficult for me. Because of my condition, I can no longer work.
For 27 years of my life I faithfully paid Social Security, contributing from my hard work and believing that if one day my health failed, the system would be there to support me,” Aldana said.
“But when I applied to be declared medically unfit to work, my application was disqualified.
After giving 27 years of service and contributions, today I am left suffering with serious back problems and without the support I believed I had earned. This is very painful, not only physically but emotionally.
I am not asking for special treatment. I am only asking for fairness and for my case to be reconsidered,” Aldana further added.
Aldana says that he gave 27 years of service to his country and now is unable to help his family.
