By Aaron Humes: He was caught on camera openly sexually and physically assaulting a collage inside the San Ignacio Town police station.
Now, Corporal Durman Dawson is gone, dismissed from the Belize Police Department and facing criminal charges as well.
The incident occurred in February of 2024 and Dawson was criminally charged with harm and sexual assault; his trial was to have begun on Monday.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police said on Monday that he affirmed the decision of the internal police tribunal which said, get rid of him: “We saw the incident in San Ignacio Town Police Station with Mr Dawson and a woman police officer, Ms Luanna Gillett. That matter was placed before a tribunal and Mr Dawson was tried and convicted by the adjudicator, the adjudicator recommended his dismissal based on the gravity of the charge that recommendation came to me and I affirmed the decision of the adjudicator in dismissing Mr Dawson.”
