San Ignacio and Santa Elena tops Belize in rising prices again!

By Zoila Palma:  San Ignacio and Santa Elena Towns recorded the highest inflation rate among Belize’s municipalities for the fifth consecutive month, with consumer prices increasing by 6.7 percent in September 2026, according to the latest Consumer Price Index report from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).

The report indicates that consumers in the twin-towns municipality experienced above-average price increases across several categories, including passenger transportation services such as bus and taxi fares.

Food prices also rose, particularly for cereal products, meats, fruits, vegetables and sugar. Higher home rental costs and medical service fees further contributed to the increased cost of living.

Other expenses that recorded above-average increases included restaurant and café services, recreational services, clothing and footwear, and laundry products.

Meanwhile, San Pedro Town recorded the lowest inflation rate at 3.3 percent in September.

SIB noted that residents there experienced below-average price increases for passenger transportation services, food, medical services, and household cleaning and maintenance products.
