By Breaking Belize News Staff: The community of San Felipe gathered today to lay to rest Angelita Magaña and her children, six-year-old Tishan Godoy and seventeen-year-old Shadia Magaña, who perished in a house fire confirmed to be arson earlier this week.
Police report that the blaze was deliberately set by Francisco Godoy, Angelita’s former common-law husband, who had recently been released from prison for domestic violence.
He reportedly used gasoline to ignite the home, killing Angelita and her children and injuring three others before dying from his own burns.
The tragedy has sparked national outrage and renewed calls for stronger action against domestic violence.
Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard condemned the act as a reminder of Belize’s ongoing struggle with gender-based violence.
