By Zoila Palma: A leaked sample ballot for Port Loyola reveals three candidates using the UDP’s traditional red color.
Nelma Mortis Jones, Anthony Boots Martinez, and Phillip Willoughby are all running with red, while Gilroy Usher from the People’s United Party (PUP) is using blue and Wilmore Tablada is using yellow.
This comes amid ongoing tensions within the UDP.
Earlier this week, Shyne Barrow wrote to the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) to refute claims of “factions” within the party, calling the reference “patently false.”
Barrow argued that the notion of two UDP factions violates the party’s constitution and criticized the EBC’s decision.
Barrow also disputed the legitimacy of any entity using the UDP name, particularly former member Tracy Panton, who recently launched the Alliance for Democracy Party.
The UDP contends that Panton should be recognized under her new party’s name, not as part of the UDP.
The party also argued that the EBC’s acknowledgment of UDP factions damages the integrity of the electoral process.
