By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Corozal salesman is facing serious allegations after being accused of stealing almost $30,000 from his employer over a two-month period.
Virgilio Gomez, 38, of San Roman Village, Corozal District, appeared unrepresented on Thursday before Magistrate Ludlow Black in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. He was arraigned on three counts of theft relating to missing sales proceeds belonging to Diversa Trading Belize Ltd.
According to police, Gomez failed to hand over day sales on multiple occasions:
- June 23, 2025 – $4,000 allegedly misappropriated
- July 1, 2025 – $2,815 allegedly misappropriated
- June 6 to August 5, 2025 – $22,132 allegedly misappropriated
In total, the company claims to have lost $28,947.43.
In court, Gomez pleaded not guilty to all charges. The prosecution raised no objection to bail, and Magistrate Black granted him bail of $5,000 plus two sureties of $2,500 each, which Gomez was able to meet by midday. He is scheduled to return to court on October 23, 2025.
The charges stem from a report filed by Allan Vladimir Ponce Chang, 39, Commercial Director for Diversa Trading Belize Ltd. Chang told police that Gomez repeatedly failed to turn in sales cash collected while working in Belize City, leading to the internal investigation and subsequent police complaint.
Gomez remains on bail as the case moves forward.
