By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Saint Catherine Academy (SCA) will represent Belize in the final of the IX Central American Student Games (CODICADER) for High School Students at the Intermediate (Under-18) Level, set for 3:00 pm today, Tuesday, October 7, at the Gimnasio Nacional Eddy Cortés in La Sabana, San José, Costa Rica.
In the tournament, which features the top high schools in the Central American isthmus, the Belizean champions will face Costa Rica’s Liceo Experimental Bilingüe de Turrialba in a rematch of Sunday’s group stage encounter, which SCA won convincingly in straight sets. With that result fresh in memory, SCA enter the final with confidence and an unbeaten record.
Road to the Final: SCA’s Dominant Run
SCA opened their campaign on Saturday, October 4, with a hard-fought 2–0 win over Nicaragua’s Colegio San Francisco Hermanos Maristas (25-23, 25-22). On Sunday, they stunned the Costa Rican champions in their second match (25-22, 25-18), securing top position in their group.

In Monday’s semifinal, SCA dispatched Guatemala’s Liceo Javier in another straight-set victory (25-22, 25-19), displaying their consistency and tactical discipline.
Meanwhile, Liceo Experimental Bilingüe de Turrialba advanced to the final after a dramatic three-set semifinal win over Panama’s Colegio José Daniel Crespo (25-21, 24-26, 15-10), setting up a revenge match with the Belizean side.
Belizean Legacy and Aspirations
SCA’s appearance in the final marks a significant milestone for Belizean high school volleyball. Last year in San Salvador, SCA finished third, matching the boys’ bronze medal performance by St John’s College (SJC). This year, SJC placed fifth, while SCA has gone one step further, now contending for the region’s top honour.
