By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Sagitun GIRLZ host Jewel Fury in the first final of the National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the FFB Stadium in Capital City Belmopan.
The match had been initially set for the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence last Saturday, December 9, but because of rain had to be postponed and similar to what happened to Altitude last year in the Premier League of Belize, the Sagitun GIRLZ have been forced to play the first match of the finals at the FFB Stadium against the defending champions, Jewel Fury.

The Sagitun GIRLZ advanced to the Finals beating Napoles of Belmopan twice. They won 3-2 in Game One on Saturday, November 25 at the FFB Stadium on goals by Olivia Dacosta, Kenya Perez and an own goal by Belsie Montoya. Carlene Tillett and Marjorie Sanchez scored for Napoles.
DaCosta converted the only goal for the Sagitun GIRLZ in the return match on Thursday, December 7 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
For their part, Jewel Fury pounded Caribbean Tire 10-1 in the first game at the FFB Stadium on Saturday, November 25. Elva Nunes had an exceptional performance converting five goals. Khalydia Velasquez also had a superb night scoring four goals. The other strike was an own goal by Shamerah Olivera. Daisy Paiz scored the lone goal for the Caribbean Tire Women who were so blasted that they forfeited the second leg of the semifinals.
