By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Sagitun GIRLZ have cemented their place in Belizean football history, securing the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Championship after a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Napoles FC on Saturday night at Michael Ashcroft Stadium.
Heading into the match with a comfortable 2-0 advantage from the first leg, the GIRLZ knew they only needed to hold firm to claim their first league title. Despite Napoles FC throwing everything they had into the decisive final match, but Sagitun GIRLZ’s solid defense, led by goalkeeper Jasmin Armstrong and defenders Jasha Bernardez, Premille Hope, Marceli Mar, and MVP Karisha Coe, kept them at bay.

Despite both teams’ relentless efforts, the final whistle blew with the score unchanged, and Sagitun GIRLZ erupted in celebration—Belize’s newest champions, follwoing a 2-0 aggregate win.
Sagitun GIRLZ dominated throughout the 2024-2025 PWLB season, finishing unbeaten and displaying one of the most dominant defensive records in league history allowing only four goals. Their journey to the championship saw them crush Cayo Dreamers 24-0 on aggregate in the semifinals, including Aranda’s double hat trick in the second leg.
Napoles FC, on the other hand, had to fight tooth and nail to reach the final, overcoming defending champions Jewel Fury with a 3-2 aggregate victory and having to play the second semifinal twice.

Despite their valiant effort, Napoles FC fell short in the grand finale, as Sagitun GIRLZ held their ground and secured the coveted PWLB title.
As the stadium erupted in cheers, the Sagitun GIRLZ players embraced the moment—capping off a season to remember. The victory marks a new era for women’s football in Belize, setting a high bar for future competition.
With their first championship trophy in hand, the Sagitun GIRLZ will surely aim to defend their crown next season. As for Napoles FC, they have vowed to return stronger, hungry for redemption.
