By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Sagitun GIRLZ were no match for the ultra offensive three-peat champions Liga Deportiva Alajuelense from Costa Rica, who pummelled them 6-0 in their first game of the Central American Women’s Interclubs Cup at Estadio Cementos Progresso in Guatemala City on Friday.
Sofía Varela scored a brace while Katerine Arroyo, Ángela Mesen, Alexandra Pinell, and Wizangel López converted one goal each for Alajuelense.
In the other Group B match, El Salvador’s Alianza edged Guatemala’s Xinabajul 3-2 in the tournament opener.
The Group A games come next. Nicaragua’s Real Estelí play in the third match of the day against Panama’s Santa Fe at 4:30 pm and then Guatemala’s Unifut Antigua take on Honduras’ CDF Under
Sagitun GIRLZ’s next game is scheduled for Sunday, July 21, when they face Alianza at 11:00 am. They close group play against Guatemala’s Xinabajul at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 23.
