‘Safer in jail than on the street’ after reportedly killing Big Tom: Sydney Peyrefitte fears for life after multiple death threats

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Sydney Peyrefitte, accused of murdering former gang boss Kenneth “Big Tom” Flowers, fears for his life and his family’s safety after receiving multiple death threats, even asking the court for special protection in prison during his arraignment. Chief Executive Officer of the Belize Central Prison, Virgilio Murillo, has confirmed with Breaking Belize News (BBN) that like other high-profile offenders, appropriate measure are being taken to ensure Peyrefitte’s security while in prison, even boasting that many of these guys are safer in jail than on the street.

“Everyone who comes to this prison is properly protected, and safe! Safe custody is our first name!! Check your archives and see all the high profile offenders who have come here and continue to live! Like I always say, these guys are safer in the prison than they are in the streets of Belize!!” Murillo told BBN.

For security reasons, Murillo would not divulge the specifics of where Peyrefitte is being housed in the prison or if he is being held alone in his cell.

Peyrefitte was arraigned in court on Wednesday after being charged with Flowers’ murder. He is accused of firing multiple shots at an SUV Flowers was driving after coming to pick up a woman with whom both have been romantically linked to. The woman reportedly called Flowers to come for her after having a heated dispute with Peyrefitte.

Flowers, a reputed former gang boss of the Back A Town area, was known for many run-ins with the law; linked to numerous high-profile crimes and multiple attempts on his life. In recent times, however, he had given up the gang life and had become a voice for change, speaking out against gang violence and doubling down on his support for the youth through his music studio, Rod Mock Records.
