By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Roman Catholic Constitutional Commission, in partnership with government and corporate sponsors, recently held an essay competition titled “What Does It Mean to Be Free.”
The essay competition was launched in celebration of Belize’s 43rd Independence Anniversary.
This initiative aligns with the September Celebration theme, “Belize, A Nation Proud and Free @43.”
The Grand Prize of $1,000 BZD was generously donated by Belize Electricity Limited, while the Ministry of Public Service, Political & Constitutional Reform contributed the second and third place prizes.
Aoife Wade from Sacred Heart College won the essay competition and Mirabella de Ocampo took second place.
Jada Daly won the third place award.
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Catholic Diocese Media Room in the Monsignor Facundo Building, located at #144 North Front Street, Belize City.
The awards will be presented by representatives from Belize Electricity Limited and Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Public Service, Political and Constitutional Reform.
