By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man was fined more than $1,500 after taking responsibility for cocaine and marijuana found at a family home on Tibruce Street over the weekend.
Ryan Michael Cole, 33, a call center agent of Tibruce Street, appeared before Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed in Court #7 along with five other family members, including a 16-year-old minor.
The group was jointly charged with possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply 2.0 grams of cocaine and possession of controlled drugs for 100 grams of marijuana.
Cole pleaded guilty to both charges, while the other defendants pleaded not guilty. After Cole accepted responsibility for the drugs, the charges were withdrawn against the other five persons, including the minor.
In mitigation, Cole told the court that he uses both marijuana and cocaine and that the drugs were not for sale, but for his own personal use. He said he bought the marijuana to last about two weeks because he had been shot before and did not want to leave his house frequently to buy weed.
For the cocaine charge, Magistrate Mohammed fined Cole $800 plus $5 cost of court. For the marijuana charge, he was fined $700 plus $5 cost of court. He has until August 7, 2026, to pay the fines, or in default, he will serve four months and two months respectively.
Before leaving court, Cole promised the Magistrate that he would not reoffend. The court noted that this was his sixth conviction for a drug-related offense.
According to police, the drugs were found on Saturday, May 16, 2026, during a search on Tibruce Street. Officers searched the homes at the property but found nothing incriminating inside.
Police then searched the outside perimeter and reportedly found several plastic bags containing marijuana and another plastic bag containing suspected cocaine under a zinc sheet on the southern side of the property.
The six persons present were taken to the police station, where the substances were weighed. The suspected cocaine amounted to 2.0 grams, while the marijuana weighed 100 grams.
