The National Secondary Schools Sports Association 2025 Basketball Championship belonged to Belize City’s Maud Williams High School, and so did the spotlight on Russel Bailey. Named Most Valuable Player, Bailey’s scoring touch and consistency stood out in his team’s stellar performance.
In Saturday’s final, Bailey poured in 19 points as Maud Williams defeated San Ignacio’s Sacred Heart College Hawks, 59–41, at the Orange Walk Multipurpose Complex. Alongside him, Marlon McClaren and Tristenn Brown added 11 points each, while Jason Orosco — last year’s MVP with Gwen Liz High School, playing as a reinforcement — contributed 8 from long range. Their combined output gave Bailey the freedom to shine and ensured the Hawks never found a rhythm.

The path to the title had already shown the team’s balance. On Friday night, Bailey scored 15 points in the semifinal win over Muffles College Bobcats, 69–61, complementing Orosco’s 28‑point explosion. Sacred Heart had earlier advanced by edging Independence High Invaders, 58–54, behind Jaden Morris’ 20 points and Jeremy Carbajal’s 19.
The Bobcats later secured third place in a nail‑biter, 63–62, over Independence, but the championship spotlight remained firmly on Maud Williams. NSSSA president Francis Pascual presented Bailey with the MVP award, recognizing not only his individual brilliance but also the pivotal support of teammates — including last year’s MVP Orosco — who made the victory possible.
