By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Valentino Shal, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Rural Transformation, has rejected allegations circulating in anonymous messages and says the ministry believes it knows who is behind them.
Speaking to reporters, Shal said he would not respond to speculation or unproven claims, describing the messages as an attempt to discredit the ministry’s work.
Shal dismissed accusations of kickbacks and increased spending, stating that the ministry operates strictly within the budget approved by the Ministry of Finance.
He also addressed concerns about procurement and financial safeguards, emphasizing that the ministry follows strict procedures and that payments are made in phases, based on available resources.
“There are a lot of procedures and checks and balances in the system,” Shal said, adding that work on rural projects remains ongoing, despite delays linked to phased payments.
