By Aaron Humes: The Government of Belize says it is delighted to announce that Her Royal Highness Sophie, The Duchess of Edinburgh, will undertake an official visit to Belize from November 16 to 19.
During her three-day stay, The Duchess will engage with government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
The Duchess’s program will include visits to various projects that showcase Belize’s commitment to promoting eye health and care, highlighting the importance of accessible healthcare services;
meeting with indigenous women leaders and visiting projects that empower women and promote their participation in community development; and the conservation and protection of Belize’s barrier reef, one of the country’s most valuable natural assets.
The visit is being coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Culture and Immigration.
Sophie, 60, is married to King Charles III’s youngest brother Edward. Their titles were bestowed following the death of the original Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, the King’s father, in 2021.
Multiple members of the House of Windsor have visited Belize since the 1950s including the late Queen Elizabeth II’s two state visits, while the current King has yet to do so.
