Rony Castillo walks free after common-law wife drops charges of threatening to kill her and firing shots outside her house

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man, Rony Castillo, walked out of court a free man on Tuesday after his common-law wife dropped serious charges of death threats and common assault. Castillo, who allegedly threatened to kill his partner and fired a gun outside their home, faced two counts in Magistrate Court #2.

However, the woman told the court she wished to forgive Castillo and did not want to proceed with the case. She explained her decision, stating she would leave everything “in the hands of God” and confirmed she was acting of her own free will, without coercion.

With no further evidence presented by the prosecution, the Magistrate withdrew the charges, and Castillo was released. According to the initial report to police, Castillo had appeared drunk at his partner’s door, threatened her in Spanish, saying, “Te voy a matar” (“I will kill you”), and brandished a firearm before firing a shot outside. Despite the serious nature of the allegations, the woman’s decision not to pursue the case led to Castillo’s release.
