By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Rockville Village man is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly chopping his cousin during a heated early morning altercation over the weekend.
Emmanuel Jason Kerr, 38, a self-employed Belizean of Mile 21 on the George Price Highway, was arraigned on Tuesday in Court #4 of the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was read two charges; one count of grievous harm and one count of use of deadly means of harm.
The charges stem from a Sunday, June 29, 2025, incident involving Kerr’s cousin, a driver and fellow Rockville resident, who reportedly received a deep cut wound to the face during the altercation.
Kerr, who appeared unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to both charges, which will be heard summarily in the lower court. Despite objection to bail from the Crown Prosecutor, a female corporal, the presiding magistrate granted Kerr bail in the sum of $3,000 plus one surety, which he successfully met late this evening.
According to police, around 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, authorities were alerted to a stabbing incident in Rockville Village. On arrival, officers spoke with a woman who informed them that her uncle, the victim, had been injured and rushed to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Initial investigations revealed that Kerr and the victim, who are cousins, had been socializing with two other men when a heated argument erupted. During the dispute, Kerr allegedly used a knife to inflict a wound to his cousin’s face, then fled the scene.
Police conducted a search for the weapon but were unable to recover the knife. Kerr was later apprehended at his residence, taken to Hattieville Police Station, and processed. He refused to sign acknowledgment forms upon arrest.
Kerr is due back in Belize City Magistrate’s Court on September 1, 2025, as the case proceeds.
