By Aaron Humes: Roaring Creek is mourning the tragic loss of Shawn Armstrong Jr., a beloved member of the community and very popular cowboy, who passed away following a severe road traffic accident involving a vehicle and a motorcycle. Armstrong was critically injured in the collision, leading to the amputation of one of his arms in a desperate attempt by doctors to save his life. Despite their efforts, he did not recover, and died this evening.
All day today, Saturday, family, friends and supporters launched a fun-raising drive by Garbutt’s Gas Station in Roaring Creek where tamales, barbecue and other food were on sale, and friends were soliciting donations to support his medical expenses and potential recovery.
Shawn Armstrong Jr. was well-known in Roaring Creek and the neighboring communities and was an active participant in rodeo competition at the National Agriculture and Trade Show and other rodeos. His passion for rodeo and the cowboy lifestyle follows the tradition of his family and community. His passing, which is the result of severe injuries sustained in a recent tragic accident where he was one of the occupants on a motorcycle, is a significant loss for the community.
This heartbreaking news comes just months after the loss of his 18-month-old son, Shawn Armstrong III, who had died after choking on a pill.
